Year in Review Summary– 2017

2017 was another thrilling year for Team Fleury and for the Lowertown, Sandy Hill and Vanier communities. Over the last year, we have continued to work directly with you to see real progress and positive improvements in our neighbourhood and for our city.

Here are a few key projects that we have been working on:

Ottawa 2017

Canada’s 150th anniversary year was a success for our Capital City. We had so many memorable events! Some of our favourite events were: Red Bull Crashed Ice, Kontinuum, Miwate, La Machine, and the Grey Cup. We hope you took advantage of this great opportunity and attended as many events as you could.

Arts Court/ Ottawa Art Gallery

Ottawa is all set to get new and improved local art spaces. The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) Expansion and Arts Court Redevelopment project, located at 2 Daly
Avenue, is sure to revitalize Ottawa’s downtown. The public will be able to enjoy the new OAG in the new year, and the new spaces within Arts Court will be open in the spring of 2018.

York Street and George Street Plaza

There are two new public spaces in the ByWard Market. The York Street Plaza is located at the west end near the York Street fountain. The plaza is 450 m2 surrounded by pre-cast concrete curbs, movable Muskoka chairs, lights, a power supply and planters.

The George Street Plaza is a showcase gateway project into the market. This new plaza includes new seating, LED lighting, more trees, more waste receptacles, a drinking fountain, a water feature and a heritage clock. Both plazas will serve as appealing gathering places for visitors to our City’s gem: the ByWard Market.

Vanier Residential Streets Construction

Many Vanier streets underwent construction this year due to aging sewer and watermain infrastructure. We took this opportunity to improve the neighborhoods by improving our streets and adding some new sidewalks and bulb outs. Landscaping and the nal layer of asphalt will happen next spring.

We look forward to working with you in 2018 on the issues that matter most. In the coming year, among other projects, we will be working on the design for the revitalization of Montreal Road, and the environmental assessment for the downtown truck tunnel.
