My whole life, there has never been a place I have been happiest than at home in this community.
Born and raised in this city, it has left many fond memories: attending Francojeunesse, learning to swim at the Lowertown pool, and borrow-ing books at the St. Laurent Complex library. From learning to skate at Jules-Morin Park or playing hockey at the Sandy Hill arena, Rideau-Vani-er has shaped me in ways I will never forget.
As your City representative, this community has meant the world to me. It was 12 years ago that I decided to put my name forward as an ambi-tious 24-year-old, knocking on your doors and asking you to put your faith in me. From that moment on, I have not let an issue go by without trying to find a resolution. And although some of our community’s most significant challenges remain, such as mental health, addiction and housing needs – I will be the first to critique my work and to adjust the City’s efforts to realize real change. Perhaps, some of you may recall, knocking on your doors the first time in 2010, I was nervous but not shy. I believe my greatest strength at that time was my ability to listen.
As a resident, I already had a good understanding of some of the concerns. But in meeting and speaking to so many of you, it opened my eyes to some of the real issues that needed more attention and action. I became dedicated and passionate in wanting to help. And I still continue to have that drive – and much to the City staff’s dismay – I never took “no” as the only answer. I had the privilege to serve this community and be your voice at City Hall for three terms.
I am thankful for the confidence, patience and support you have given me over the last decade. Much of my strength was found in your support over the years – I was always determined and ready to roll up my sleeves in making sure the City responded to your needs. Our expectations of what this community de-served was essential, and I worked hard with all of you to finding positive solutions. My team and I took pride in responding to your calls, attending every meeting, following up on emails and engaging with you at all hours of the day, on weekends, including on social media. I gave my heart and soul to our community, and I hope to have set a strong foundation for new leadership to build on. Whether you are a friend, a supporter, a non voter, or a non supporter, I want to thank you. All of you engaged in your way to make me and this City work hard.
And ultimately, you made me want to continue to be a better leader and support this passionate community. Lowertown, Sandy Hill and Vanier – in a heart-shaped City – I believe its soul lives in these three neighbourhoods. You have proven you live and breathe all that is good in Ottawa. Without a doubt, we live in the best part of Ottawa.Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to work for you over the last 12 years. I am blessed to have held your expectations, confidence, and trust in all those years.
