Meet Mat

It's safe to say that the Rideau-Vanier is in my DNA.

I was born and raised in Ottawa, attending Francojeunesse and Franco Cité in my youth.

I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Ottawa.

My team and I work very hard, long hours, on weekends, during a holiday to ensure our community needs are met.  I am passionate about helping people, understanding and addressing the challenges we face, and working towards providing the best results.

As your City Councillor, this position of privilege allows me the ability to speak up and lead and help make our community and Ottawa one of the best cities to live in the world.

I love that we have some of the best locally owned and operated businesses in our Ward. From Louis Pizza on MacArthur Avenue to Pili Pili Grilled Chicken on Dalhousie, I love not having to go far to find a favourite of mine. Ottawa is surrounded with local spots such as the Bytowne Cinema, the Rooftop at Andaz, l’Hexagone, Working Title Kitchen and Café, the Ottawa Art Gallery, Planet Coffee, and even projects like the expansion of the Rideau Centre, all offer a unique “capital feeling” unlike any other.

As I am an outdoors and sports enthusiast, parks and recreation spaces are very important to me. This is why I am lucky to represent a community with so many beautiful outdoor spaces. On a personal note, Jules Morin park has provided me with many fond memories. It’s where I learned to skate, it’s where I got my first job at Lowertown pool, and now I am fortunate enough to share all these recreation locations with my son.

I even met my wife when we both worked for the City at Plant Recreation Centre.  As a family, we love making new memories in this City. In our Ward, we are looking forward to spending lots of time in the newly revitalized Riverain Park and taking advantage of new amenities like splash pads and canoe launch on the Rideau River.

It is a great honour to work with residents and businesses in Lowertown, Vanier and Sandy Hill over the past decade to support our communities. My commitment remains to lead by example and help others by constantly engaging and working with our community.

Good Day!

I am keeping the website active, as a former city councillor and community leader so that residents can review and access projects, priorities and some of the most serious issues during the period I was a City Councillor for Ward 12, Rideau-Vanier.
