As many of you will know a construction project is set to begin in the south east of Sandy Hill. The project has recently been split into two stages. Templeton and Russell will be reconstructed this year (starting in the spring) and Mann and Range will be completed in 2020.
The construction work will include rehabilitation/replacement of:
- sidewalks, road structure and pavement
- watermains and sewers
- lateral services to the property line
The affected streets include Mann Avenue (Chapel Street to Range Road), Range Road (Mann Avenue to Somerset Street East), Russell Avenue (Somerset Street East to Osgoode Street), Templeton Street (Chapel Street to Range Road) and Lane 119V (rear of Range Road and Marlborough Avenue).
Two open houses have been held. The first was June 20, 2018 and the second February 26, 2019. Many interesting suggestions came from these open houses. For instance, due to popular demand, Templeton will be getting a reduction in parking. This is being done to keep a consistent road width, widen the sidewalks and preserve the greenspace.
We will see lighting improvements throughout this section, a new section of sidewalk of Templeton (behind the Sandy Hill Community Centre), and several sections of sidewalk will be widened. Mann and Templeton will be receiving several bulb outs to narrow the road and create a safer pedestrian experience.
We are also striving to get a raised intersection at Somerset East and Range Rd. We feel it’s important to differentiate this intersection from the others and to highlight the importance of the east-west cycling movement to and from the Adawe Crossing. We ask for your patience during construction and as always you can contact us should you see any particular issue. We are available at 613-580-2482 or Mathieu.firstname.lastname@example.org.
