Team Fleury: Community Liaison and Legislative Assistant

We care about our community and are passionate about our City. Joining our team is an opportunity to shape and interact with our community and the City’s Transportation, Parks and Legislative future. As a member of Team Fleury, you would be accountable for managing and delivering a wide range of operational services and processes in support of our team, including organizing community events and public meetings, collaborating with community organizations and associations on policy issues and events, external relations and project management.  This is an exciting, hands-on role, operating in a fast-paced environment.

​We work as a close team to support our community.  On many occasions we are all hands-on deck to ensure community initiatives are successful.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Community Liaison: 
    – All things community for Lowertown, Sandy Hill and Vanier
    • Support community organizations, residents and stakeholders to organize events, facilitate information sharing, address challenges in support community initiatives
    • Receive and respond effectively and in a timely matter to telephone calls: emails, and letters from constituents, City Staff, City Council members, and other elected officials from all levels of government
  • Parks, Recreation and Culture Team Lead: 
    • Support community use of parks, sport, recreation and cultural spaces within our community
      • Support Park redevelopment planning and monitoring; renewal and expansion of facilities in our community
      • Support renewal and expansion of programming in our community
      • Develop community partnership to support local sports associations, arts groups and other stakeholders
  • Transportation Team Lead:
    • Work with the community and City to solve local challenges, and ensure transportation priorities are achieved
      • Advance community traffic calming initiatives, road safety measures, and pedestrian and cycling missing network links
      • Advance infrastructure renewal project examples: Rideau Street, Montreal Road to name a few
      • Advance transportation policy unique community needs (transit investments, resolution to interprovincial truck route, road design)
      • Advancing winter maintenance concerns and policy environment
  • Legislative Support, as required:
    • Assist in ensuring our team is organized, briefed and ready for all committees and council meetings.
      • Prepare Council and Committee briefs
      • Conferring with the team to review policy initiatives and emerging issues.  
      • Draft motions to help advance team policy priorities and concerns
      • Follow up with stakeholders on correspondences to the various committees and council reports

Education and Experience: 

  • University or College degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Journalism, Communications, English or related program 
  • Experience providing support to an elected official is desirable
  • Knowledge of the Rideau-Vanier Ward (Lowertown, Sandy Hill, and Vanier) would be considered an asset

Language: 

  • Bilingual (English/French) oral, reading, writing is required.
